At its Monday, Dec. 8, meeting, the Moore County Board of Education quickly approved a new four-year contract for Director of Schools Chad Moorehead and changed the date for next month’s meeting.
The new contract is similar to Moorehead’s current one, but adds a 3% salary increase starting July 1 and fixes a small grammar error.
The board decided to keep the Director’s self-evaluation requirement after some discussion. They also talked about leadership succession planning and agreed it should be part of the district’s strategic plan, not the director’s contract.
Moorehead has served the school district since 2006.
• Since the Tennessee School Boards Association did not suggest any changes, the board accepted the policy review lists for November and December as they were.
• Because of school athletic events, the board changed the January meeting to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13.
• Moorehead also shared that all but one of the ordered textbooks have arrived. He updated the board about the new July 1, 2026, deadline for districts thinking about joining a lawsuit over overpriced instructional materials. He said the process could take a lot of work and promised to provide more details when he has them.
• Moore County High School received the TSSAA A.F. Bridges Award for sportsmanship. To receive the award, a school must have had no reported unsportsmanlike conduct incidents during the previous school year and have demonstrated an overall positive effort to teach, expect, and demand a positive atmosphere of sportsmanship at its contests.
• Moorehead also announced two staff changes: Kelly Hart was hired as a custodian, and Jillian Schechter was temporarily reassigned to help with behavioral support.
• The board clarified how it wants updates on threat assessments. Moorehead will add a summary to his regular director’s report before each meeting, unless there is a real threat, which state law says must be reported within 48 hours.
The meeting ended after a short discussion about upcoming budget work and TSBA training sessions.
