Duane Cross is the publisher and editor of the Moore County Observer, with more than 35 years of experience in journalism, digital media, and publishing.

He began his career in community newspapers, where he built a foundation in reporting, editing, and newsroom leadership. He later served as managing editor for Turner Sports in Atlanta, spending 15 years overseeing digital coverage of some of the nation’s biggest sporting events.

Cross has also worked in content strategy, marketing, and SaaS, adding broad experience in digital publishing, audience development, and online media operations.

In 2024, he launched the Observer to provide Moore County with accurate, fair, and community-centered local journalism. Under his leadership, the Observer has grown into a digital-first news outlet committed to high standards, strong reporting, and deep local coverage.

Cross lives in Moore County and believes local journalism is essential to an informed community and a stronger civic life.
