DREMC warns of phone scam targeting customers
2:42 p.m. Feb. 10, 2026
Duck River Electric is alerting both business and residential members about a phone scam. In these calls, scammers impersonate the cooperative and threaten to disconnect service immediately unless you pay your bill immediately.
In a public service announcement, the utility explained these calls are not from Duck River Electric. Customers are urged to hang up right away if someone demands payment, even if the caller seems convincing.
Scammers have used toll-free numbers starting with 1-800 or 1-888, and sometimes ask people to call back a 931 area code. The cooperative stressed that it never threatens disconnection in this way and encourages members to address any account issues directly through official channels.
If you need to check your account, log in on the DREMC website, use the mobile app, or call a verified phone number listed online. Officials also remind everyone to watch for suspicious activity, protect personal information, and share this warning with friends and family.
You can find more tips on spotting scams in the latest issue of The Tennessee Magazine and on the cooperative’s website.
