Sports signups, tryouts, bake sale on tap

Football and cheer signups are open now, with a cheer bake sale and high school tryouts also coming up

Moore County families have several youth sports dates to keep straight this month, from football and cheer signups to a middle school cheer bake sale and high school baseball and softball tryouts.

For parents trying to keep the calendar straight, here are the announcements that matter.

Football Signups Open

Moore County Youth Football signups are now open for the upcoming season.

Registration is being handled online this year through the league’s new website at moorecountyyouthfootball.com.

League officials said this year’s divisions will include:

• K-first grade flag football
• Second-third grade flag football
• Fourth grade flag football
• Fifth-sixth grade tackle football
• Fifth-sixth grade girls-only flag football
• Seventh-eighth grade girls-only flag football

Representatives will be at Lynchburg Park today, Thursday, May 14, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. to answer questions about the upcoming season.

MCMS Cheer Bake Sale May 23

Moore County Middle School cheerleaders will host a bake sale fundraiser at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 23, at Woodards.

The sale will support the MCMS cheerleaders and gives families another way to help the squad before the next school year begins.

Cheer Signups Close June 1

Moore County Youth Cheer will also hold in-person signups today, Thursday, May 14, beside the concession stand at the softball and baseball fields for families who want to pay by cash or check.

Signups close June 1.

High School Tryouts Set

• Moore County High School softball tryouts are scheduled for Thursday, May 21, at 5 p.m. More information is available from Coach Conn at jason.conn@mcdoe.net.

• MCHS baseball tryouts will be held at 6 p.m. July 20 and 21 at the high school baseball field. Players should bring proper baseball equipment and water. Questions may be directed to Coach Morey at randy.morey@mcdoe.net.

Key dates include today, May 14, for football questions and in-person cheer signup; May 21 for softball tryouts; May 23 for the MCMS cheer bake sale; June 1 for the cheer signup deadline; and July 20-21 for baseball tryouts.
