MCHS Drama Club takes center stage

Moore County High School didn’t always have a Drama Club. Mrs. Brooklyn Turner brought the program to life with her unique ideas and contributions for two years, for which everyone has been highly grateful. Unfortunately, she stepped down as head of the club, leaving the program in jeopardy.

However, all thanks to Mrs. Sara Dennis, the MCHS Drama Club has been revived. Mrs. Dennis is an eighth-grade English language arts teacher at Moore County High School. Due to her courage to take over the program, Drama Club students can continue their passion for the theater and face new beginnings.

Mrs. Dennis took on the challenge of leading the MCHS Theater program because she hated letting down the students. She always loved musicals when she was in school and wanted the same experiences for them. So far, 31 students have joined the program, with another 17 or 18 wishing to perform and work backstage.

When Mrs. Dennis was younger, she did one performance and discovered that being on stage wasn’t for her. However, she did many solo performances for the band in high school. Mrs. Dennis believes that to be a good theater performer, you only need confidence and the ability to know you’re part of a group.

Two students, Molly Parker and Sayan Patel, explained why Drama Club is essential to them.

Molly joined the theater club in hopes of meeting new people and the opportunity it gives to work with different types of people. She said that in the meeting for people to join the theater, many said it felt like another family. Molly was ecstatic to hear theater was being brought back to Moore County due to the opportunities it holds and to work with everyone again.

Sayan joined the theater club because theater has always been a big part of his life throughout high school, especially being a part of big productions. Drama Club helped Sayan get out of his comfort zone and talk to more people, leading to him meeting amazing new people he can call family. Sayan was happy when he learned the program had returned for his senior year. He’s excited to be able to enjoy theater one last time before his high school journey ends.

Now that the Drama Club has a fresh start, the students are starting from scratch. The club is hosting auditions for Shrek the Musical. Moreover, Mrs. Dennis wants to do some Disney and Dreamworks titles.

Time is the most valuable gift you can give anyone; therefore, Moore County High School is grateful for Mrs. Dennis giving hers to the program. The MCHS Drama Club is taking community donations. So, if you would like to support the program, you can attend upcoming performances, and the club members also will host fundraisers.
