The Lawn Sessions return Oct. 16

There are worse ways to spend an October evening than in a lawn chair beside Mulberry Creek with live music drifting across the Jack Daniel Distillery grounds.

The Lawn Sessions return Friday, Oct. 16, with Kentucky singer-songwriter Hunter Flynn and the Huffer Brothers taking the stage at 5:30 p.m. The outdoor concert will be held on the distillery campus at 133 Lynchburg Hwy.

Flynn comes to Lynchburg with a sound he calls “Appalachian Soul,” shaped by country, folk, gospel, and Southern rock. The Pulaski County, Ky., native is a self-taught musician who did not play his first public show until 2022.

A rollover crash on Interstate 75 the year before changed things for Flynn. He left his day job, supported himself in part by drawing commissioned charcoal portraits, and eventually started putting his own songs in front of people. Since then, he has performed in the United States and Europe and was named the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame’s 2025 Artist in Residence.

Flynn’s new album, Roots, will be released Oct. 30, two weeks after the Lawn Sessions show.

The Huffers come home

Andy and Lee Huffer won’t need directions to this one. The twin brothers graduated from Moore County High School in 2016 and have stayed tied to Lynchburg while building a steady presence on Nashville stages.

Andy was sitting on a cooler playing guitar at the Bedford County Fair when a fair board member heard him and offered him a spot opening the next night. He rounded up Lee, their father, and a few other musicians. They made $10 apiece.

They played around Middle Tennessee for a few years before heading to Nashville. The brothers spent nearly three years playing Tootsie’s before becoming regulars at Ole Red and Friends in Low Places. They also play at Jelly Roll’s Goodnight Nashville.

The Oct. 16 show brings them back home, and it won’t be their first Lawn Sessions appearance.

Back on the lawn

The Lawn Sessions debuted in 2025, when concertgoers brought chairs and blankets and settled into the grass for an evening of music on the distillery campus. The Huffer Brothers were part of that first lineup with Hippies & Cowboys and Hunter Girl.

This year, the Huffers return with Flynn joining them on the bill. Organizers are again encouraging concertgoers to bring a lawn chair or blanket and find a spot beside Mulberry Creek.

Capacity will be limited this year, and public ticket sales open Wednesday, Sept. 30. Those who purchased tickets to last year’s Lawn Sessions have been given early access.
