Rocktober returns – and this one’s for Bobby

For three Octobers now, neighbors have made their way up Spencer Ridge Road for an evening of music, food, and fellowship at Whiskey Hill.

They’ll do it again this fall. Only this time, the night carries a little more weight.

Rocktober on the Ridge IV returns Saturday, Oct. 17, with featured artist Tobi Lee of the Mustang Sally Band back on stage. This year’s gathering will be held in memory of Bobby Cashion, a longtime Lynchburg neighbor remembered for his friendship, service, and generosity.

Cashion died June 30 at his Lynchburg home, surrounded by his family. He was 77.

Net proceeds from the evening will benefit Camp JOY, a cause close to Bobby’s heart.

Lee returns for year four

Tobi Lee has been part of Rocktober from the beginning, and she’ll be back on the Ridge when the gates swing open at 5 p.m.

Music runs from 6 to 9 p.m., with food, friends, and a fall evening at Whiskey Hill filling out the night.

The formula hasn’t changed much in four years, and that’s part of the charm. Come hungry. Find a place to settle in. Catch up with somebody you haven’t seen in a while. Then let the music take it from there.

This one’s for Bobby

Whiskey Hill is dedicating this year’s gathering to Cashion, giving friends and neighbors a chance to swap a few stories and remember Bobby.

Camp JOY is a nonprofit Church of Christ youth camp where area congregations bring young people together for Bible study, outdoor activities, and time with one another. Its name carries the camp’s guiding message: Jesus First, Others Second, Yourself Last.

Camp JOY was a cause close to Bobby’s heart, and this year’s Rocktober will help support the camp in his memory.

There’ll be music, plenty to eat, and likely a few Bobby stories told before the night is over.

Rocktober on the Ridge IV will be held Saturday, Oct. 17, at Whiskey Hill Lynchburg, 544 Spencer Ridge Road. Gates open at 5 p.m., with Tobi Lee performing from 6 to 9 p.m.
