Council discusses Halloween traffic plans

The Metro Council turned its attention to one of Lynchburg’s most anticipated fall traditions during its Monday, Sept. 15 meeting – Halloween in the Hollow.
Council members discussed logistics for the community-wide celebration, which is scheduled for 4-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, on the Square. The annual gathering has become a family favorite, drawing hundreds of costumed children and parents downtown for an evening of safe, festive fun.
During the meeting, council members reviewed street closure plans and public safety measures. Sheriff Tyler Hatfield assured the council that extra personnel will be on duty to help manage traffic and keep trick-or-treaters safe. Council members also highlighted the importance of clear communication with residents about parking and road detours.
Sheriff Hatfield said the Square will be closed, as it has been in years past, and will not have the Mechanic Street side of the Square open.
He noted Lynchburg Elementary School also has its Halloween festivities that day, and the Moore County Raiders football team plays host to Richland in the final regular-season game.
