The Jack Daniel Distillery on Wednesday, October. 22, announced the release of Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Special Release Tanyard Hill Rye, the newest addition to its annual line of limited-edition whiskeys.

This year’s release is a barrel proof Tennessee Rye Whiskey matured in one of the distillery’s historic barrelhouses located atop Tanyard Hill – a site that has quietly aged whiskey alongside the famed Coy Hill for more than six decades.

“Tanyard Hill has been one of the hidden gems for those familiar with Lynchburg,” Master Distiller Chris Fletcher said. “We’re excited to finally share its whiskey with more people and continue celebrating the deep, rich flavors that come from our unique barrelhouse locations.”

The whiskey entered new handmade American white oak barrels in November 2015 and has since matured through Lynchburg’s dramatic seasonal shifts. The result, according to the distillery, is a bold rye expression with an aroma of dark fruit and sweet oak, layered flavors of candied mint and dark chocolate, and a finish of clove, sweet tobacco, and lingering oak.

Made from Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Rye mash bill – 70% rye, 18% corn, and 12% malted barley – the Tanyard Hill Rye is charcoal mellowed before aging and bottled at barrel proof, ranging from 130.2 to 148.8 proof (65.10%–74.40% ABV).

The Special Release Tanyard Hill Rye will be available in limited quantities nationwide beginning this month. Packaged in 700mL bottles, it carries a suggested retail price of $79.99.

Jack Daniel’s launched its Single Barrel Special Release series to showcase experimental and site-specific expressions from around the Lynchburg distillery. Previous releases have included highly sought-after editions like Coy Hill High Proof.
