Pain, Pressure, and Purpose

Pain, Pressure, and Purpose

At some point in life, most of us start believing a lie. We think the pain is supposed to stop. We imagine that if we work hard enough, grow enough, pray enough, and live with enough discipline, life will eventually smooth out. The resistance will fade. The storms will calm. We expect things to get easier.

Then life shows up and proves otherwise.

The truth is this: The more you grow, the more responsibility you carry, and the more responsibility you carry, the more you get tested. The closer you move toward your purpose, the more frequently the challenges show up. Not less, more.

When you start really moving toward your “why.” When you get serious about discipline. You lean into faith. You try to live intentionally, and suddenly life feels heavier. Pressure increases. Problems stack up. Plans fall apart. Unexpected setbacks appear.

Then you begin to question yourself: Am I doing something wrong? It feels logical. If you’re moving toward the right things, shouldn’t life reward you with smooth sailing?

But that’s not how growth works, and it just isn’t how life works.

Pain is not a sign you’re off track. Pain is often a sign you’re on the edge of growth. Muscles grow under resistance. Character sharpens under pressure. Faith intensifies under testing. Mental toughness flourishes under strain.

Nothing meaningful in life develops in comfort.

The weight room doesn’t apologize for being heavy, and the climb doesn’t apologize for being steep. When you step toward who you’re meant to become, the stakes get higher.

You’re carrying more weight because God determined you’re strong enough to carry more weight.

Here’s the part I’ve misunderstood (and maybe you have, too) about faith: growing closer to God doesn’t remove battles. Often, it prepares you to face bigger ones. Purpose invites pressure. Calling invites challenge. Responsibility invites testing - not as punishment, but as preparation.

Faith doesn’t remove the storm; it strengthens you inside of it.

If life feels heavy right now, if challenges keep showing up, if the road feels steeper than expected, don’t assume you took a wrong turn. You may be in a season of strengthening, a season of sharpening, a season of becoming.

Instead of asking, “Why is this happening to me?” Try asking, “What is this preparing me for?” That single mindset shift will change everything.

So this week, remember: Life will bring the pain. Growth will bring the pressure. Purpose will bring the tests.
