Appraisers appointed for Martha’s Vineyard property
Valuations due in May as receivership moves prominent asset closer to sale

A federal judge has appointed three appraisers to value Uncle Nearest’s Martha’s Vineyard property, moving one of the receivership’s more visible assets closer to sale.
In an order filed April 14, U.S. District Judge Charles E. Atchley Jr. appointed Bill Cleary of Martha’s Vineyard Real Estate Appraisers, Tom Garrahan of Thomas Garrahan Appraisals of Cape Cod, and Neil Maloney of Hartel Realty to appraise the property at 10 Codman Spring Road in Edgartown, Massachusetts, along with the personal property located there. Their written reports are due to the receiver by May 12, and the receiver must file them with the court by May 13.
The order formalizes the valuation step for a property the receiver is trying to sell.
Receiver Phillip G. Young Jr. had proposed four appraisers for the court’s review. Farm Credit Mid-America, Fawn Weaver, and Keith Weaver had until April 13 to object, but no new objections were filed, the order states.
Atchley also noted that Fawn and Keith Weaver had previously objected to one of the original candidates, Matthew Bellas of Bellas Appraisal Services. But with enough other unopposed candidates still on the table to satisfy the statute, the court did not need to reach the merits of that dispute. The objection was overruled as moot.
The order also designates the three appraisers as “Receiver Representatives,” extending to them the rights, powers, and protections laid out in the court’s earlier receivership order. It says they will be compensated under that same framework.
In practical terms, the ruling moves the Martha’s Vineyard property closer to sale by putting an independent value on the table.
Now that the court has named the appraisers and set the deadline, the case moves from who will value the property to the number that could help shape its sale.
