Raiderettes close regular season with split

Moore County begins postseason play on Monday, facing Huntland at Cornersville

Moore County closed the regular season with two very different games this week – an 8-3 win over Cornersville and a 10-0 loss at Cascade.

The Raiderette opened the week with 12 hits and one of their better offensive nights, beating Cornersville, 8-3, on Monday. Ellie Carter collected three hits and helped spark an early rally as MCHS built a lead and stayed in control.

Moore County wasted little time getting started. The Raiderettes scored four runs in the top of the first after Carter singled home a run, later tagged up and scored, and a Cornersville error allowed two more runs to come across.

That was enough for Kinsley Miller, who went the distance in the circle. Miller allowed three runs on 10 hits over seven innings, striking out four and walking one.

Kenzie Howrd, Jenny Sanders, and Carter each had three hits, giving the Raiderettes steady production throughout the order. Abbie Bateman drew three walks, and Moore County finished with six walks as a team.

The Raiderettes also kept pressure on Cornersville with their speed. Rian Ross stole three bases, and Moore County finished with six stolen bases in the win.

Cornersville had 10 hits, led by Georganna Peters, Zoey Blackwell, and Amelia Begley with two each. Peters went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs.

Makynslee Hobby took the loss, allowing eight runs, five earned, on 12 hits over 6 2/3 innings.

MCHS drops regular-season finale

Cascade took control Thursday, handing Moore County a 10-0 loss.

The Lady Champions scored first in the opening inning when MoMo Bilbro singled home a run, then added to the lead in the second behind a Leah Tapp single, a Moore County error, and a bases-loaded walk by MaKenzie Fisher.

The game-breaking swing came in the bottom of the third. Bilbro hit a grand slam over the right-field fence, giving Cascade four more runs and firm control of the game.

Moore County never found the same rhythm at the plate, finishing with two hits; Rian Ross and Whitney Fanning each had one.

Shalan Burt earned the win for Cascade, holding Moore County scoreless over five innings. She struck out six and did not issue a walk.

Bailey Dunn took the loss for Moore County. The right-hander worked 4 1/3 innings, allowing 10 runs – one earned – on five hits. She struck out three and walked seven.

Bilbro led Cascade at the plate, going 2-for-3 with five RBIs. Fisher drew two walks, while Burt and Tapp each stole multiple bases. Cascade finished with five stolen bases and seven walks.

Moore County opens the District 9A Tournament at 5 p.m. Monday against Huntland at Cornersville.
