Moore County High School will soon be under new leadership.
Josh Deal, who has served as principal of Moore County High School since 2023, is set to move into a central office position with Moore County Schools in June, leaving the school in search of a new principal.
Deal will remain with the district and replace Supervisor of Support Services Wendy Hart, who announced her retirement last year. In that role, he will oversee safety, support services, transportation, and coordinated school health for the school system.
"He has the experience to go with the role," Director of School Chad Moorehead said of Deal.
Deal has been a steady presence at Moore County High School for years. A former baseball coach at MCHS, he was named assistant principal in 2020 before becoming principal in 2023.
During his time as principal, Moore County High School earned one of the state’s top sportsmanship honors. In 2025, the school received the TSSAA A.F. Bridges Award for sportsmanship.
Meanwhile, Deal and Athletics Director Kris White are in the process of hiring head boys' and girls' basketball coaches. Interviews are underway, and the school system hopes to fill those roles shortly.
