Moore County tops Community, Rocket City while losing to Cascade

The Moore County Raiders got what they needed from spring break.

They went 2-1 over the stretch, beating Community, 9-5, on March 31, falling 6-0 to Cascade on April 2, and answering with a 15-5 win over Rocket City on April 3. In the two wins, Moore County scored 24 runs, piled up 27 hits, and kept the pressure on from the first inning forward.

The week opened with a road win over Community, and the Raiders took hold of it early.

Ryland Stovall put Moore County on the board in the first with an RBI single. In the second, Jose Garcia doubled to center to drive in two runs, and Stovall followed with a single down the left-field line that brought home two more as the Raiders built a lead Community never erased.

Moore County added two more in the sixth on home runs by Cole Taylor and Kohlby Williams to finish off the 9-5 win.

Stovall and Garcia drove in two runs each, while Stovall and Williams had two hits apiece. The Raiders also stole four bases.

Colton Morey earned the win with a complete-game effort. He worked all seven innings, allowed six hits and five runs, four earned, struck out seven, and walked five.

Cascade 6, Raiders 0

Thursday looked nothing like Tuesday.

The Raiders managed one hit in a 6-0 loss to Cascade, which never let Moore County get loose offensively. Cascade broke through in the second inning on a solo home run by Elijah Wesenberg and held the edge the rest of the way.

Kohlby Williams had Moore County’s only hit.

Cole Taylor took the loss, though he gave the Raiders a chance to stay in it. He went 6 2/3 innings, allowed six runs – three earned – on five hits, struck out eight, and walked three.

Cascade got the win from Wickey Parker, who threw three hitless innings and struck out five. Ty Hawley earned the save.

Raiders 15, Rocket City 5

Moore County answered Friday with its sharpest offensive game of the break.

The Raiders rapped out 18 hits and buried Rocket City with an eight-run fourth inning in a 15-5 win.

Rocket City scored first in the opening inning, but Moore County answered in the bottom half. Jose Garcia singled home a run, and an error brought in two more to put the Raiders in front. Cole Taylor added an RBI single in the second, and Nick Smith drove in a run in the third as Moore County kept pushing the game downhill.

Then the fourth blew it open.

Deacon Liles doubled home two runs, Jace Deal singled in another, Colton Morey was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Taylor singled in two more, and Kohlby Williams doubled home two runs as the Raiders turned the game into a rout.

Taylor led the way by going 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Deal, Taylor, and Garcia each had three hits. Cody Burton, Liles, Williams, and Smith all finished with multiple hits, and Moore County stole six bases, with Taylor swiping two.

Carter Zerhusen earned the win after allowing two hits and three runs, two earned, over two innings. Braylynn Hill gave Moore County three innings in relief, allowing one hit and two runs, one earned, while striking out four.
