Jack Daniel barrel house collapses

The collapse of part of a Jack Daniel Distillery barrel house behind the South Bottling Plant made for an early wakeup call across Moore County on Monday morning.

Brown-Forman officials confirmed no one was inside the barrel house, and no Jack Daniel employees were injured.

Public Safety Director Jason Deal said Metro Moore County EMA was on the scene at 1926 Fayetteville Hwy. before 6 a.m. to assess the "incident" along with the Jack Daniel’s Fire Brigade.

The parent company noted it is "working to conduct a full assessment of the damage." Jack Daniel officials believe no more than 15% of the barrels – about 2,850 – inside the house were impacted.

"All affected whiskey has been contained, and we are working with all appropriate government agencies as we remediate this incident," the company said in a statement.

Barrel house 2-15 was built in the late 1960s. Its capacity is approximately 19,000 barrels. Each barrel contains about 53 gallons – depending on barrel size, evaporation (the angel's share), and other factors – or 250-ish bottles. So, the barrel house is home to around 4,750,000 bottles of Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey.

Company officials noted  Jack Daniel Distillery operations and tours are running as normal.
