Moore County voters face July 7 registration deadline

Early voting begins July 17; absentee ballot requests are due July 27 for the General Election on Aug. 6

Moore County voters who want a say in the Thursday, Aug. 6, election have one date to circle first: Tuesday, July 7.

That is the voter registration deadline for the Aug. 6 election. Early voting begins Friday, July 17, and runs through Saturday, Aug. 1. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is Monday, July 27.

Voters can check their registration, polling place, and election information through Tennessee’s voter lookup tool. The Secretary of State’s office also offers online guidance for new voter registrations and updates to existing voter information.

For absentee information or to request a by-mail ballot, voters may email Moore County Administrator of Elections Jim Sanders at moore.commission@tn.gov.

Those dates are not filler. In Moore County, a lot of the vote is already banked before Election Day.

In the Aug. 4, 2022, election, Moore County had 5,353 registered voters. Of those, 1,885 cast ballots, for a turnout of 35.21%.

Most of those ballots were already in before Election Day. Early voting accounted for 1,139 ballots, or 60.42% of all votes cast. Another 33 voters cast absentee-by-mail ballots. Together, early and absentee voting made up 62.18% of Moore County’s turnout in that election.

Put plainly: In the last General Election, nearly two out of every three Moore County voters who participated had already cast a ballot.

Voters who have moved, changed their name, or need to update registration information should do so before the July 7 deadline. New voters also must be registered by that date to participate in the Aug. 6 election.
