Those orange construction signs popping up along Highway 55 are not just roadside clutter. They are the first warning signs of a TDOT resurfacing and bridge repair project that is about to get underway.

TDOT said Tuesday that the work will begin at Main Street – near Woodard’s and the Moore County Co-Op – and continue east to the Coffee County line.

The project is part of TDOT’s 3-Year Pavement Program and includes resurfacing that stretch of Highway 55, along with bridge repairs.

Lincoln Paving will handle the construction. TDOT lists the project completion date as on or before Aug. 31.

The start date depends on when Lincoln’s asphalt plant can resume running mix, which could be before the week's end. In the meantime, workers are prepping shoulders before milling begins.

TDOT says resurfacing projects are selected based on existing pavement conditions, including distress, roughness, traffic level, and pavement age.

Drivers should expect daily lane closures Monday through Friday, which may lead to slower traffic, lane shifts, and occasional delays.
