Tennessee’s Property Tax Relief Program helps qualifying homeowners – especially seniors, people with disabilities, and disabled veterans – cover part of their annual property tax bill. Funded by the state and administered through local tax offices, the program is designed to ease the financial burden for residents with limited or fixed incomes, while setting clear income limits and eligibility rules for applicants.

The state funds the program, and local tax offices handle the applications. In Moore County, Trustee Lynn Harrison is available at the courthouse to answer questions and assist residents with the application process, helping ensure eligible homeowners receive the relief they qualify for.

Who can qualify?

You may qualify if you are a homeowner in one of these groups:
• Age 65 or older
• Disabled
• Disabled veteran
• Widow or widower of a disabled veteran

Each group has its own income limits or eligibility rules.

Income limits and home value caps

For most applicants:

• Your annual household income must be under certain limits. For example, elderly or disabled applicants typically need an annual income of less than $37,530.

• The relief only covers part of your home’s value. For elderly or disabled homeowners, this is $32,700 of the home’s market value.

• Disabled veterans and eligible surviving spouses can get relief on up to $175,000 of their home’s value. The exact amount depends on disability rating and service-related status.

You may need to provide the following when you apply:
• Proof of income (tax return, W-2, or similar documents)
