Raiderettes top Grundy Co. in home opener

Rian Ross went 3-for-4 with a home run as Moore County beat Grundy County 9-6 on Saturday, and the Raiderettes used a five-run sixth inning to win their home opener.

Grundy County grabbed the first run on Abbie Tate’s RBI single in the top of the first, but Moore County answered quickly. Ross’ two-run homer to center put the Raiderettes ahead 2-1, and Raegan Ross added an RBI single in the second to make it 3-1.

Grundy County answered in the fifth, tying the game on Tate’s sacrifice bunt before Brooklynn Burrows lined an RBI single to center to take the lead. Moore County responded in the bottom half when Ross singled to center to even it at 4-4.

The Raiderettes took control in the sixth, scoring five runs on three hits to open a 9-4 lead. A Grundy County error helped fuel the inning by allowing two runs to score.

Kinsley Miller earned the win in the circle for Moore County, allowing six runs, three earned, over seven innings. She gave up eight hits, struck out seven, and walked none.

Emma Brown took the loss for Grundy County despite recording 10 strikeouts. She worked 5 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs, four earned, on five hits and two walks.

Whitney Fanning added two hits in two at-bats for Moore County. Abbie Bateman was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base.

Burrows led Grundy County at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Addison Shrum also collected three hits for the Lady Yellow Jackets, who turned one double play.

Moore County (1-2) plays host to South Pittsburg at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
