Uncle Nearest-linked firms ordered to respond

A federal judge has directed 10 business entities linked to Uncle Nearest Inc. to respond in an ongoing legal dispute with Farm Credit Mid-America over the scope of assets subject to a court-appointed receivership.
On Sept. 12, Phillip G. Young, Jr., the receiver in the case, filed a motion asking the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee to clarify whether several related companies fall under the receivership order. The entities include:
- Shelbyville Barrel House BBQ LLC
- Humble Baron Inc.
- Grant Sidney Inc.
- Uncle Nearest Spurs VI LLC
- Quill and Cask Owner LLC
- Nashwood Inc.
- Classic Hops Brewing Co.
- Shelbyville Grand LLC
- Weaver Interwoven Family Foundation
- 4 Park Street LLC
Farm Credit, the plaintiff in the case, argued in its response that all of the entities should be included in the receivership. No defendants filed opposition to the motion before the response deadline.
Judge Charles E. Atchley Jr. ruled that the court requires additional information before expanding the receivership, but ordered the receiver to serve notice of the motion and order on the 10 entities by Oct. 14. Those entities must respond by Oct. 21 or risk being automatically included in the receivership.
In a footnote, the court also clarified that Uncle Nearest Real Estate Holdings LLC is already covered under the original receivership order, addressing confusion raised by some financial institutions.
Farm Credit sued Uncle Nearest Inc. earlier this year in Case No. 4:25-cv-00038. The case continues to test the financial structure and related holdings of the whiskey brand founded in Shelbyville.
