The Legacy Conversation You’re Avoiding
Conversations we avoid are often the ones that matter most. A look at faith, courage, building a legacy while still here.

Most people think legacy is something they leave behind after they're gone. I don't. I believe legacy is built in the conversations we're willing to have while we're still here.
For many of us, there's a conversation we've been avoiding for months ... maybe years. It might be about finances with your spouse. With your children about your wishes. With your business partner about succession. With a friend you need to forgive, or with someone you love who has no idea how much they mean to you.
If we’re honest with ourselves, we can acknowledge that we avoid these conversations because they're uncomfortable. We tell ourselves that there will be a better time. More time. We must remind ourselves that tomorrow isn't promised. God calls us to live faithfully today.
One thing I've learned is this: God rarely grows us inside our comfort zone. He meets us in obedience.
Throughout the Bible, the people God used most weren't the ones who chose the easy path. They were the ones willing to trust Him enough to take the difficult step. Moses confronted Pharaoh. Esther approached the king. Peter stepped out of the boat. Ultimately, Jesus willingly walked toward the cross.
Faith has always required courage. In my industry, we often see families divided because no one had the courage to have honest conversations. I've also experienced the incredible honor of seeing peace settle over a family because someone chose to speak truth in love before it was too late.
Our legacy won't be measured only by what we accumulate. It will also be measured by what we had the courage and the love to give away while we were here.
By the wisdom we share. By the forgiveness we offer. By the encouragement we give. By the relationships we maintain or restore. And maybe most importantly, by the words spoken while the people we love can still hear them.
So this week, if there's a conversation you've been avoiding, ask God for the courage to have it. Make the call. Schedule the dinner. Write the letter.
Obedience is often uncomfortable, but it is always worth it. The people you love shouldn't have to discover your heart after your funeral.
