When Discipline Becomes Purpose
We often confuse “not finished” with “not enough.” A reminder that God is still working in the middle of our growth.

Somewhere along the way, many of us began to think that if we still struggle, still stumble, still have insecurities, still have questions, then somehow, we’re failing. We expect ourselves to have it all figured out. To always be strong. Always be confident. Always have the answer. But life doesn’t really work that way.
The truth is, every person you admire is still growing. Every great leader is still learning. Every successful entrepreneur is still making mistakes. Every strong marriage is still being built. Every faithful believer is still being transformed.
None of us arrive. We’re all becoming something.
I’ve come to realize that God is far more interested in our transformation than our perfection. He doesn’t expect us to have everything figured out. He asks us to trust Him enough to take the next step.
Philippians 1:6 reminds us that “being confident of this, he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” What a comforting thought. The pressure isn’t on us to finish ourselves. Our responsibility is to stay faithful while God continues His work in us.
The problem is that we often confuse “not finished” with “not enough.” They aren’t the same thing. You can have room to grow and still be worthy. You can be improving and still be valuable. You can be healing and still be strong. You can be learning and still be leading.
Being a work in progress doesn’t mean you’re broken. It means you’re alive. Growth is messy, at least it has been in my life. Sometimes it looks like two steps forward and three steps back. Sometimes it looks like learning the same lesson more than once. It’s important for us to realize that is not failure.
That’s life.
I’d like to invite you to start celebrating progress!
What if we gave ourselves the same grace we so freely give to the people we love?
So, this week: Keep growing. Keep learning. Keep showing up. Keep doing the work.
You don’t have to be perfect to be valuable. You’re allowed to be a work in progress.
And so am I.
