EMS reminds Lynchburg Park visitors of on-site AED

As spring sports begin at Lynchburg Park, Moore County EMS is urging coaches, parents and spectators to know where the park’s automated external defibrillator is located in case of an emergency.

Metro Moore County Public Safety Director Jason Deal said quick action can save lives. The agency urged anyone at the park during a cardiac emergency to call 911, begin CPR, retrieve the AED, and follow the device’s voice prompts until first responders arrive. Dispatchers can also provide the code needed to open the cabinet.

The AED cabinet is mounted on the concession stand wall at 960 Main St. EMS officials encouraged coaches, athletic directors, and other park users to familiarize themselves with the device’s location before crowds grow larger this spring.

Deal said sudden cardiac arrest occurs when the heart stops beating because of an electrical malfunction. Citing the American Heart Association, survival odds drop by about 10% for every minute without defibrillation.

AEDs are designed for public use, even by people without medical training. The devices provide voice instructions and analyze heart rhythm before determining whether a shock is needed.

Moore County EMS oversees the county’s AED program, including maintenance, registration, and placement of devices in public locations. The unit at Lynchburg Park is part of that broader effort.
