Lady Hornets shut out Moore County

Moore County could not recover from Huntland’s eight-run third inning Friday, as the Lady Hornets rolled to a 19-0 win.
Huntland took the lead in the second when Peyton Counts singled home the game’s first run. The Lady Hornets then broke it open in the third, scoring eight runs on six hits to seize control.
Emily Stewart highlighted the inning with a two-run double, Kinah Mason added a two-run single, and Lily Jackson doubled home a run. Counts and Millie Walker also drove in runs, while an error helped Huntland build the lead.
Huntland added five more runs in the fifth. An error brought home one run before Catara Johnson and Mason each added two-run singles to cap the scoring.
Mason earned the win for Huntland, tossing five shutout innings while allowing four hits, striking out two, and walking two.
Lailar Logan took the loss for Moore County. She worked 2 2/3 innings, allowing 10 runs, seven earned, on eight hits while striking out three and walking three.
Jenny Sanders led Moore County at the plate with two hits, including a double, in three at-bats.
Huntland finished with 14 hits and did not commit an error. Stewart and Jackson had three hits each, while Stewart and Mason drove in four runs apiece. Johnson, Counts, and Walker also collected multiple hits. Bolin and Counts drew two walks each, and Analyn Riddle led the Lady Hornets defensively with six putouts.
Moore County will travel to Grundy County on Monday. First pitch is 6 p.m.
