Raiderettes steal first game, then Shelbyville’s big bats carry rematch

Moore County and Shelbyville split a two-game softball set, with the Raiderettes erasing a five-run hole to win the opener before the Eaglettes answered with a 19-7 win Monday.

Raiderettes Rally to Take Opener

Moore County looked buried Friday, March 27, until the fifth inning turned everything.

Trailing 5-0, the Raiderettes hung seven in the fifth and walked Shelbyville down in a 7-5 win.

The Eaglettes grabbed control early. Ja’Mya Anderson opened the scoring with a solo home run to left in the second, and Shelbyville added to the lead in the third with the help of a Moore County error and a Maci Lovvorn groundout.

Moore County took it back in the fifth.

The Raiderettes stacked up seven hits in the inning and sent seven runs across to take the lead for good. Jenny Sanders delivered the biggest knock, shooting a two-run single to help finish the turnaround.

Lailar Logan made the rally stand up. The right-hander worked all seven innings, allowing seven hits and five runs – only two earned – while striking out three and walking two.

Moore County finished with 10 hits. Logan, Anna Deaton, and Abby Bateman had two hits each, while Ellie Carter drove in two runs.

Shelbyville got two hits apiece from Jazzlynn Nowlin and Jeheili Palacios Acuna. Anderson and Lovvorn each drove in a run.

Shelbyville Answers in High-Scoring Rematch

Shelbyville answered Monday, April 6, putting up eight runs in the second and nine more in the fourth in a 19-7 win.

Moore County struck first when Logan doubled home a run in the top of the first, but the lead did not last. Shelbyville erupted for eight runs in the second, with Anderson’s three-run double breaking it open.

The Eaglettes added two more in the third before Moore County answered in the fourth.

The Raiderettes scored six runs on seven hits in the inning to cut into the deficit. Rian Ross singled in a run, Raegan Ross worked a run-scoring walk, Logan ripped a triple that cleared three more, and Kenzie Howard added an RBI single.

But Moore County’s charge lasted only half an inning.

Shelbyville answered with nine in the bottom of the fourth, cashing in on hits, speed, and Moore County miscues. Janiya Leslie homered to center in the inning, while Anderson and Jazzlynn Nowlin added two-run singles.

Logan drove in four runs on two hits to lead Moore County. Ellie Carter went 3-for-3 from the No. 7 spot, and Rian Ross and Bailey Dunn also had multiple hits. Moore County worked seven walks, with Ross and Whitney Fanning drawing two each.

Shelbyville finished with 13 hits and did not commit an error. Anderson and Leslie had three hits each, while Anderson and Nowlin drove in four runs apiece. Lauderdale added two hits, and the Eaglettes swiped eight bases.
