Morey wins District 11A title; Works earns Region berth

Moore County finishes one stroke shy of a team berth as senior golfers punch their tickets to next round

Moore County came within one swing of sending its entire boys' golf team to the Region tournament Tuesday at Henry Horton State Park.

Instead, seniors Colton Morey and Braden Works will represent the Raiders in the Region tournament.

Junior Alexus Hornaday qualified in the girls' field with a round of 126.

Morey shot a 74 to claim the TSSAA District 11A individual championship, while Works carded an 81 to earn his own spot in the Region field.

Morey put together rounds of 35 and 39 to finish four shots clear of the rest of the field. Tanner Forst and Trace McLeary each shot 80, while Marshall County’s Eli Phelps and Works followed at 81.

Works reached his 81 with a 39 on the front nine and a 42 coming home.

Raiders miss team berth by one

Moore County finished with a team score of 347, leaving the Raiders fourth Ω– and just one stroke shy of advancing as a team.

Eagleville won the District 11A championship with a 325. Marshall County finished second at 342, and Forrest grabbed the third and final team qualifying spot at 346.

Behind Morey and Works, junior Braylynn Hill shot a 92 for Moore County. Freshman Maddon Liles finished at 100, while sophomore Jackson Lindsey carded a 112.

With four scores counting toward the team total, Morey’s 74, Works’ 81, Hill’s 92, and Liles’ 100 combined for the Raiders’ 347.

Cascade finished fifth at 388, followed by Giles County at 399.

Although Moore County came up one stroke short of moving on as a team, Morey and Works claimed the first two individual qualifying spots available to golfers from teams that did not advance.

They were joined by Riley Strickland at 81, Jack Darefsky at 88, and Clayton Moseley at 88.
