Raiderettes advance in district tourney

Moore County had tallied two hits across its previous three games, including a one-hit showing in a first-round loss to Huntland in Monday's District 9A Softball Tournament.

On Tuesday against Fayetteville in a win-or-go-home losers' bracket matchup, the Raiderettes erupted for 13 hits in a 14-2 victory.

MCHS starting pitcher Kallie Ross gave up two unearned runs in the top of the first inning, but the Raiderettes rallied to tie the game in the home half of the frame.

Moore County scored five runs in the second and seven more in the third to salt away the run-rule decision.

The Raiderettes swiped 15 bases: Savannah Rose (4), Abbi Bateman (3), Ellie Carter (2), Tilly Parsons (2), Whitney Fanning (2), Anna-Leigh Ross (1), and Bailey Dunn (1).

Fanning finished 2-for-3 with a walk, scored two runs, and knocked in three.

Rose and Kallie Ross had a team-high three hits, including a double for Rose, who scored twice and had an RBI. Ross also chipped in with an RBI.

Anna-Leigh Ross and Dunn were 1-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI. Ross's hit was a run-scoring triple in the second inning.

Parsons and Carter scored once and knocked in one, and Bateman walked and scored twice.

Kallie Ross yielded three hits and two walks while striking out five across four innings.

The Raiderettes face Huntland at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
