Raiderettes advance to Region title game

For all the superlatives Moore County has achieved this season, no one thought the Raiderettes would score four points – all on free throws – in the first quarter on Monday.

And still, MCHS held Cornersville to two points. It was that kind of night, with CHS stalling its offense to limit Moore County's possessions.

Still, the Raiderettes (27-3) did more than enough to thwart Cornersville's tactics for a 34-18 victory in the semifinals of the Region 5A Tournament.

Ellie Graham scored a game-high 12 points – eight off free throws.

Katy Fletcher and Emma Sazonov sank two free throws each in the first quarter to account for Moore County's points.

In the second quarter, Ally Sharpe hit a 3-pointer, and Fletcher had a basket for the Raiderettes' points from the floor. Graham added four free throws, and Sazanov had two as MCHS took a 15-9 lead to the locker room.

It was more of the same in the third quarter. Emma Dye, Fletcher, and Graham had a bucket, while Sharpe and Fletcher had a free throw each, and Graham converted three times from the charity stripe.

Moore County led 26-14 entering the fourth quarter.

The Raiderettes finally had more points off buckets than free throws in the fourth. Dye, Graham, and Anna Harder hit from the floor. Graham and Harder also added a free throw apiece.

Six players scored for MCHS: Graham (12), Fletcher (7), Dye (4), Sazonov (4), Sharpe (4), and Harder (3).

Abigail Finley paced Cornersville's "offense" with seven points.

The Raiderettes hit seven baskets, a 3-pointer, and went 17-for-26 from the free-throw line.

Moore County will play Richland for the Region championship at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
