Raiders split pair on Saturday

Moore County split a pair of games Saturday, beating Grundy County, 5-1, before dropping a 1-0 pitchers’ duel to Shelbyville.
The Raiders opened the day with a solid all-around performance against Grundy County at Warren County High School. Moore County struck first in the opening inning when Cole Taylor singled home a run, then added to the lead in the third when Luke Stephens drove in two more with a single down the left field line.
That was plenty of support for Colton Morey, who turned in a complete-game effort on the mound. Morey allowed four hits and one run – unearned – over seven innings, striking out five and walking one.
Moore County finished with nine hits in the win. Stephens led the way with two RBIs while going 2-for-4, while Jace Deal and Morey each collected two hits.
Shelbyville 1, Raiders 0
Moore County was held hitless through six innings before Kohlby Williams broke through with the Raiders’ lone hit, but Shelbyville managed to scratch across the game’s only run in the sixth.
Even so, Cole Taylor gave Moore County another strong start, working all six innings and allowing just one unearned run on four hits while striking out four and walking one.
Shelbyville’s Brody Thomas was dominant, tossing six scoreless no-hit innings with 11 strikeouts and three walks before Braxton Vari came on to earn the save.
The Raiders were sharp defensively in the loss, playing error-free baseball and turning a double play. Williams also led Moore County in the field with seven chances.
Moore County returns home to face Eagleville at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
