Chick Chain: Cluck-worthy 4-H event

What’s the 4-H Chick Chain? It is an egg-citing way for kids to learn by doing – and in this case, that means raising chickens.

In the spring, Moore County 4-H’ers each get a batch of fluffy baby chicks. All summer long, they feed them, care for them, and watch them grow into healthy hens.

Along the way, kids learn responsibility, patience, and even a little “egg-onomics” as they prepare for the big day.

By fall, it’s showtime! The 4-H’ers bring back their best hens for the Chick Show & Auction, where the community gets to cheer them on.

Judges look for healthy, well-cared-for birds, and afterward, the hens are sold at auction to support the kids and their future 4-H projects.

It’s sure to be a hen-tastic afternoon filled with feathered friends, proud kids, and plenty of fun. You might even get the chance to bid and take home a prize-winning hen of your own.
