MCMS Raiderettes top Unity for District title

The Moore County Middle School Raiderettes defeated Unity, 46-39, on Saturday to win the Region 4-District 15 tournament, improving their record to 18-1.
Moore County set the tone early, jumping out to an 18-7 lead after the first quarter behind sharp perimeter shooting. The Raiderettes carried a 28-21 advantage into halftime and continued to apply pressure in the third quarter, extending the lead to 40-31 heading into the final period.
Maddie Goodwin led MCMS with 13 points, knocking down three 3-pointers and going 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. She drained two triples in the opening quarter as the Raiderettes built their early cushion.
Addison Brandon and Baylee Thomas each added 10 points, with Thomas connecting on two 3-pointers.
Sadie Ivey scored six, while Maddison Hatfield finished with four and Haven Hornaday contributed three.
From the free-throw line, MCMS went 9 of 17, including 5-for-9 in the fourth quarter, to close out the championship win.
Unity was led by Evvie Bryan’s game-high 18 points, with Aubrey McGee adding 10.
Moore County will play at South Lawrence, the District 16 champion, at 6 p.m. Monday.
Raiderettes handle Huntland
The Moore County Middle School Raiderettes left no doubt Thursday night, rolling past the Huntland Lady Hornets, 43-13, in Region 4-District 15 tournament play.
