Moore County battled back through the losers’ bracket to reach Friday’s District 9A championship game before falling to Richland, 12-2. MCHS finished as District 9A runner-up and advances to next week’s Region tournament.

Moore County’s long climb through the District 9A Tournament finally ran out of road Friday night.

After losing to Huntland in the first round, the Raiderettes had to work their way through the losers’ bracket just to reach the championship game. They beat Cornersville. They handled Fayetteville. They got Huntland back.

That run earned them a shot at Richland. But in a double-elimination tournament, one win would not be enough. MCHS had to beat Richland twice to claim the title.

Richland never let it get that far.

The Lady Raiders struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Dannie Lynn Galloway grounded out to bring home a run.

Moore County answered in the top of the second. Lailar Logan homered to center field to tie the game, and Anna Deaton followed with an RBI groundout to give the Raiderettes a 2-1 lead.

Richland took the lead back in the bottom of the second. Lilly Lancaster stole home to tie the game, and a Moore County error brought home another run to make it 3-2.

Richland added another run in the third, then broke the game open in the fourth with six runs on four hits. An error scored two runs, Lancaster doubled home another, and West followed with a three-run single.

West earned the win for Richland, allowing three hits and two runs, one earned, over five innings. She walked one.

Bailey Dunn took the loss for Moore County. She went 3 1/3 innings, allowing nine runs, though only one was earned, on six hits. She walked three.

Abbie Bateman, Rian Ross, and Logan each had one hit for the Raiderettes. Logan and Deaton each drove in a run. Moore County also turned one double play.

Lancaster led Richland at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Mary Katherine Butler, Alizabeth Gordon, and Caroline Cheek each had multiple hits. Richland also turned three double plays, keeping Moore County from building much momentum.

For Moore County, the night ended short of a district title. But after four games in the elimination bracket, the Raiderettes are still standing – and still playing next week.
