Raiderettes withstand Community, 45-40

The Moore County Raiderettes kept their early-season momentum Friday night, grinding out a gritty 45-40 road win over Community to move to 3-0 on the year. Moore County’s poise – along with a flurry of timely shooting – proved to be the difference.
Community jumped out to a 19-16 lead after the first quarter. The Raiderettes bounced back to forge a tie, 26-26, at halftime. Moore County took control in the third quarter, outscoring the Viqueens 12-2 to take a 38-28 advantage into the final stanza.
Emma Dye (7 points) and Ally Sharpe (5 points) carried the MCHS offense in the decisive third quarter.
Sharpe once again played the role of sparkplug, pouring in a game-high 19 points, including three first-quarter 3s and converting 6 of 9 free-throw attempts.
Dye delivered a near-perfect night: 5-for-5 from the field, added a trey of her own, hit both free-throw attempts, and finished with 15 clutch points.
The Raiderettes’ long-range production didn’t stop there. Ellie Carter knocked down two 3s on her way to 6 points, while Alexus Hornaday added another triple to round out her 3-point effort. Bella Tucker chipped in 2 points.
At the line, Moore County stayed composed, finishing 8-for-11.
On the defensive end, the Raiderettes’ discipline showed up in a big way. Their composed, hands-up defense kept Community off the stripe most of the night, sending the Viqueens to the free-throw line only three times.
Savannah Pearson powered Community with 18 points.
MCHS travels to Cannon County for a 6 p.m. tip on Monday, Dec. 8.
