Raiders fall to Coffee Co. after costly second frame

A four-run second inning proved costly Wednesday as Moore County dropped a 7-2 decision to Coffee County at MCHS.

Coffee County took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly by Davis McKenzie, but the Raiders answered in the bottom half when Kohlby Williams doubled to left to score Colton Morey and tie the game at 1-1.

Coffee County seized control in the second, scoring four runs on a single by Chase Leonard, a double by Austin Gipson, a dropped third strike, and a Moore County error.

The Red Raiders added another run in the third when Landan Abellana homered to left, then capped the scoring in the seventh with Abellana’s second solo shot of the day, this one to center.

Moore County scored its second run in the sixth when Ryland Stovall singled home Nick Smith.

Matt Moore earned the win for Coffee County, allowing five hits and two runs over six innings while striking out eight and walking none.

Crew Costello took the loss for Moore County, giving up six runs, four earned, on six hits over five innings. He struck out six and walked three. Jace Cashian recorded the save.

Stovall and Williams each collected two hits and drove in a run for Moore County. Smith scored one of the Raiders’ two runs.

Abellana led Coffee County offensively, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Moore County travels to Grundy County on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
