Raiderettes blanked in first round

The best thing about a district tournament is that you can lose and bounce back to make a run at the championship. That's precisely where Moore County finds itself after losing 9-0 to Huntland on Monday in the first round of the District 9A Softball Tournament.

The Lady Hornets scored three times in the third inning, five more in the fourth, and one in the sixth.

The Raiderettes managed two base runners – a walk to Whitney Fanning leading off the fourth and a two-out single in the seventh by Bailey Dunn to break up Kinah Mason's no-hit bid.

MCHS starter Kinsley Miller was saddled with the loss. She tossed 3 1/3 innings and allowed five runs – three earned – on four hits and a walk. She struck out three.

Kallie Ross pitched the final 3 2/3 frames, allowing four runs on five hits and two base on balls. She whiffed four.

Moore County will face Fayetteville in a win-or-go-home game at 7 p.m. Tuesday at MCHS.
